Sam Romano explodes for 17 points to lead the Indians past the Warriors

White Sulphur Springs - Defending Class AAA Bridgeport entered the Battle for the Springhouse on a 10-game win streak.

Make it eleven.

Using precision shooting and a strong defensive effort, the No. 2 ranked Indians rolled past Class AA No. 2 Wyoming East, 70-44.

The boys from Harrison County now advance to the championship game Saturday at 5 p.m. The Warriors will play in the consolation game at 3 p.m.

Bridgeport trailed just once in the contest at 5-4, but led 10-5 after one quarter.

While the scoring frustrations continued for Wyoming East into the second period, Bridgeport added 17 points to its tally for a 27-16 lead at halftime.

The Warriors started to find the mark in the third period, scoring 19 points. Unfortunately for East, it could not slow down the Indians who expanded the lead to 51-33 with eight minutes to play.

Sam Romano paced the defending state champions with 17 points, making eight of his nine attempts from the floor.

Gavin Williams followed Romano with 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting and Anderson McDougal netted 11.

Broc Johnson led Wyoming East with 17 points, while Konnor Fox had nine and Keegan Davidson eight.

The Indians shot just a tick under 60 percent from the field and was 8-for-17 from deep. The Warriors struggled at 42 percent from the field and made just one of nine attempts from behind the arc.
