Area Golfers Qualify For the 106th WV Amateur Championship at Pipestem Friday

Battling through a three-hour rain delay late in the afternoon, 48 golfers competed for 15 qualifying spots in the 106th WV Amateur Championship Friday at Pipestem Resort and State Park.

Four players finished at one under par (-1) 71, earning Medalist honors including Karson Terry of Peterstown, the ageless wonder Chris Daniels of Beckley, Adam Sholes of Charleston and rising Greenbrier East junior Isaac Hutchison of Lewisburg.

Hutchison earned all-state honors last October at the state high school golf tournament in Wheeling.

The remaining qualifying positions were secured by Timothy Boggs of Beckley, Jack Williams of Beaver, Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek, Carson Proffitt of Camp Creek, Zachary Null of Elkview, Malachi Flohr of Daniels, Gavin Gregory of Shady Spring, Indiana Eades of Ansted, Case Tolliver of Bluefield, Chuck Workman of Marlinton and Maxwell Usrey of Bluefield.

Jack Williams played on the state championship Shady Spring golf team and also earned all-state honors last October.

Carson Proffitt won the Class AA individual title while at PikeView High School and is also the head golf coach for Concord University.

Indiana Eades started his golf career at Midland Trail High School and played for Proffitt at Concord.

Gavin Gregory attended Victory Baptist Academy and recently signed to play golf at WVU Tech in the fall. Malachi Flohr is a rising sophomore at Shady Spring High School.

The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
