Historic Season For Greenbrier West Softball Closes in State Tournament Semifinals

South Charleston - The historic run for Greenbrier West came to a close Thursday morning in the elimination semifinal game of the State Softball Tournament at Little Creek Park.
For the second day in a row, the Lady Cavs could not solve the riddle that was the Wahama White Falcons.
In a game eerily similar to the opening match-up Wednesday, the White Falcons erased an early deficit to take an 11-6 win, advancing to the state championship game.

Greenbrier West led 2-0 after one inning on an RBI-single from Maddie Fields and a sacrifice fly from Brooklyn Adkins.
However, as was the case all game, when the Lady Cavaliers scored, Wahama answered in kind.
Doubles from Zoie Mayes and Fiona VanMatre, along with a RBI-single from Audrey Reynolds keyed a three-run uprising and the White Falcons never trailed the rest of the game.
Although Greenbrier West couldn't quite get over the hump Thursday, the fight never ceased.
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Redden opened the at-bat with a single and then scored on a triple from Fields. The Potomac State commit then scored on a ground ball out by Preslee Treadway.

Wahama doused the Greenbrier West comeback fire using three singles, two walks and an error to score three big runs, placing the Lady Cavs in a deep hole.
A sacrifice fly and another Greenbrier West error in the seventh opened the door for two more runs for an 11-5 lead.
The Lady Cavs added the final run of the game on the second base hit and third RBI from Adkins which scored Ava Price.
Redden and Fields, both named to the Class A All-Tournament team, had three hits each with Fields driving in two runs.
The White Falcons finished with 14 hits, led by VanMatre who was 4-for-4. Payton Staats collected three hits, while Elissa Hoffman and Mayes had two each. Phoebe Richardson had two RBI.
Staats and Elissa Hoffman earned All-Tournament honors for Wahama, joined by Baylee Beachler, Avery Townsend, Susan Vincell, Lizzie Alt and Julia Mongold from Pendleton County.
Pendleton County beat Wahama 9-1 to win the Class A State Softball Championship.
