Mount View Stuns Greater Beckley Christian Baseball Saturday

The stat line Saturday for Greater Beckley Christian baseball read 8-15-3.

Unfortunately for the Crusaders, the numbers were in all the wrong places.

Committing eight errors, walking 15 batters and hitting three more, Greater Beckley Christian opened the door and visiting Mount View came rolling through to take a 10-4 win in the Class A Region 3 battle.

The victory by the Golden Knights forces a winner take all showdown Monday night back in Beckley at 5:30 p.m. The winner will then advance to the regional championship series starting the following Monday.

The Crusaders entered the regional tournament as the No. 1 seed and had won both regular season meetings with Mount View, but none of that seemed to matter Saturday.

Greater Beckley survived a rough first inning that saw them render two walks, a hit batter and commit their first error, but were only down 1-0.

Going forward, however, Mount View made the Crusaders pay dearly for the miscues building a 7-0 lead through three innings.

The home team moved within four runs after five innings, but ultimately could not get out of its own way in the 10-4 setback.

Hunter Muncy was a stalwart for the Golden Knights on the mound earning the complete game win.

Muncy allowed only five hits, two earned runs and fanned nine Crusaders.
