Shady Spring Trio Among Local Contingent To Make Cut at WV State Amateur

White Sulphur Springs - Low rounds were hard to come by Monday on the Old White Course during the 106th WV Amateur Championship played at The Greenbrier.

Among the field of 120 golfers, just four managed to shoot under par, with three other players checking in at even par.

Noah Mullens, who won the title in 2022, fired a 2-under par 68 to move into the lead at 6-under par overall.

Owen Elliott is one shot back after matching the round shot by Mullens, followed by Cam Roam who is three shots back.

Defending champion Christian Brand had the best round of the day with a 67 and is four shots back of the lead.

Opening round leader Brian Anania is now tied with Brand after falling back with a round of 74 Monday.

Reigning Class AAA state champion Jack Michael from Cabell Midland had an even-par round and is tied for sixth place, seven shots back.

Basically playing in his back yard, Nick Dent leads the local contingent tied with Michael.

The other local golfers making the second round cut down to 51 players include former Shady Spring state champion Tanner Vest, Woodrow Wilson state basketball champion Chris Daniels and former Midland Trail standout Indiana Eades.

Cooper Ward is a rising senior at Shady Spring and he will also play the next two days. Ward was an all-state golfer on the 2024 Shady Spring state champion golf squad.

Another former Shady Spring golf standout, Drew Green, made the cut along with Jeff McGraw from Princeton.

Bryson Beaver won the Class AA individual state golf title, as well as a River States Conference individual championship at WVU Tech, is also inside the top-20 players competing Tuesday and Wednesday.

Round three will get underway Tuesday back on the Meadows Course before finishing Wednesday on the Old White Course.
