Beckley will play Clarksburg in an elimination game Thursday morning

Berkeley Post 60 Knights 12, Beckley Bash (Post 32) 8

Beckley struggled to hold leads in the regular season and Thursday morning Post 32 was stung by that bug once again in the opening round of the West Virginia American Legion State Tournament at Mylan Park.

After trailing 4-0, Beckley rallied for a 7-4 lead, but could not hold the advantage. Berkeley Springs scored eight runs across the final three innings to take a 12-8 win.

Berkeley Springs recorded five extra base hits led by J Viands who had a double and three RBI's. Cason Plaugher and Mason Elliott also had two RBI's for Post 60.

Maddex Sims led the Bash with a double and four RBI's, while Jake Meadows, Cole Cunningham and Grayson Kesterson had one RBI apiece. Degan Williams had two hits, including a double, for Beckley.

Berkeley Springs will play Wheeling Post 1 in the winner's bracket at 4 p.m. Friday. Beckley will battle Clarksburg Post 13 in an elimination game at 10 a.m.

Charleston (Post 65) 8, Berkeley (Post 14) 5, 9 innings

Evan Wilson hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning for Charleston to tie the game before Post 65 secured the 8-5 win in the ninth.

Three straight bases loaded walks and a wild pitch in the ninth was the difference maker for Charleston who will now play Morgantown Post 2 at 7 p.m. Friday in the winner's bracket.

Grant Barclay had three hits and three RBI's for Post 65 and Wilson had two RBI's. Luke Blaydes collected three hits and scored four times. L Buckner had two hits and an RBI.

Berkeley Post 14 will play Parkersburg Post 15 at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.

Wheeling (Post 1) 8, Clarksburg (Post 13) 1

Brady Ernest had three hits, including two doubles and a solo home run to lead Wheeling past Clarksburg 8-1 Thursday.

Seth Cover and Jaxon Murray each had two hits and two RBI for Wheeling who will now play Berkeley Springs Post 60 at 4 p.m. Friday.

Cover pitched 4.1 innings to get the win, striking out eight, while allowing only two hits.

Morgantown (Post 2) 5, Parkersburg (Post 15) 4, 9 innings

Kane Williams doubled in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Morgantown a 5-4 walk-off win over Parkersburg Thursday night.

Williams ended the night with two hits and two RBI's, along with Nate Wolfe who had two hits, including a solo blast and two RBI's.

Tommy Montague took the win in relief throwing two scoreless innings with no hits allowed. Morgantown will play Charleston Post 65 Friday at 7 p.m.

Eli Davis had a double and two RBI's for Parkersburg who plays Berkeley Post 14 at 1 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
