Carpenter and Williams lead the pack after round one the Mountain State Golf Classic
Josh Carpenter leads the Mountain State Golf Classic by one shot over Jack Williams
Daniels and Boggs three shots back of the leader

Winning the battle on day one of the 2025 Mountain State Golf Classic came down to consistency.
Pocahontas County native Josh Carpenter tooled around Grandview Country Club making 14 pars and four birdies to take a one-shot lead over Jack Williams
Williams, who helped lead Shady Spring to the 2024 AA State Championship last October, only made one bogey on the day along with an eagle and two birdies for a 3-under par round of 69.
Reigning Senior Amateur Champion Chris Daniels and Timmy Boggs are three back of Carpenter after a round of 71.
Now living in Asheville, NC, Carpenter made the turn at 1-under after a birdie at No. 6. A birdie on tricky No. 12, was preceded by back-to-back-birdies on holes 14 and 15.
The only tense moment came on No. 17 where Carpenter rolled in a putt from just under 10-feet for par.
Williams matched Carpenter with 14 pars, while using the firm condition to eagle the long par-5, 4th-hole before making birdie on the par-5, 6th-hole. Ten pars followed before the future Concord Mountain Lion tripped up on hole-17.
Undaunted by the bogey, Williams knocked it stiff on the final hole and rolled it in to move back to 3-under par.

Daniels made seven straight pars before two straight birdies to end the first nine hole. His tee-ball on the par-3, 9th-hole from 182 landed in tap-in range for a front nine 34.
A birdie at No. 12 moved Daniels to 3-under before settling at 1-under par after bogeys on 16 and 18.
Boggs made three birdies and one bogey on the first nine holes before running off nine straight pars. A bogey on No. 18 left him at one-under for the day.
David Cassis, Lindy Sullivan and Ryan Albaugh shot even-par for day one and is only four shots out of the lead.
Chad Griffith, H Sevy and John Handy shot 73 (1-over), while six players are tied at 74.
Round two moves to Pipestem State Park, while the championship round will be played Monday on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.
