
District 4 Little League Softball: New River Gorge and Sophia Victorious

The District 4 Little League Softball Tournament opened Saturday at Beckley Little League Park with the New River Gorge All-Stars and Sophia All-Stars taking home victories.
The New River squad knocked off Trap Hill, 9-0, while Sophia defeated Princeton 15-3 in four innings.

Emeliah Hudson fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead New River.
The Fayette County girls struck quickly to take a 3-0 lead before Trap Hill came to the plate. Erica Harvey led the hitters with two hits, including a double, and three RBI's

Paris Goodman and Calee Lewis also had two hits. Lewis and Kyleigh Cochran both had an RBI.

Sophia exploded for 11 runs in the top of the third inning to race past Princeton.
Three walks and a hit batter was followed by a two-run double from Lillian Shrewsbury for a 5-1 lead. Four more walks and another hit batter pushed the lead out to 9-1 before Kylee Holt rapped an RBI-single.
Skylar Scarfino then singled to load the bases ahead of an RBI-single from Jersey Martin. Liza Kapp closed out the outburst with a double to score two more.
Emma Cook had 12 strikeouts for Sophia in the win.
Play continues today in Beckley with New River Gorge playing the host team, while Trap Hill and Princeton battle in an elimination game.
The District 4 Little League Softball All-Star Tournament is a double-elimination event.
