
Evans leads wire-to-wire to win 2025 WV Jr AM
Cooper Ward moves into third place with a 7-under par, 65 Thursday

Davis - Washington High School rising junior Tommy Evans shot 1-under par Thursday afternoon to win the 2025 West Virginia Junior Amateur after leading wire-to-wire.
The final round 71 was good enough to hold off former Cabell Midland state champion Jack Michael by two shots.

Michael, who will play for West Virginia University next fall, shot 69 for his third sub-70 round of the tournament.
The round of the day went to Shady Spring rising senior Cooper Ward who recorded six birdies and an eagle for a 7-under par, 65, to finish in third place.
Graham High School state champion, Cart Hinkle, was at even par Thursday to tie for fourth place with Steven McDavid.
Greenbrier East all-stater Isaac Hutchison shot under par for the third consecutive day with a 71 and finished in seventh place.
Tyler Beard also shot even par in the final round to place him in ninth place overall.
Montcalm standout Rocky Frye ended his tournament in a tie for 14th-place shooting even par for his best round of the three-day event.
In the Girls’ Championship Division, Chastyn Viars of South Charleston maintained a four-stroke lead to win the title. Tied for second were Audrey Kerr of Bridgeport and Lexi Green of Charleston.
McKenzie Armstrong of Belmont finished fourth, followed by Alana Hamaty of Bluefield in fifth.
