HS Football: Midland Trail wins AA top-10 showdown over James Monroe

Sophomore quarterback Rayce Dickerson accounts for four touchdowns to lead the Patriots

Lindside - Class AA No. 8 Midland Trail outscored AA No. 10 James Monroe 21-8 in the second half to rally for a 28-25 win on the road.

Bryce Gardinier was in on all of the first half scoring for the Mavericks who built a 17-7 halftime lead.

Gardinier hit a 23-yard field goal before hauling in a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter, one from Ryan Mann and one from Jayden Miller.

Gage Johnson started the Trail comeback when hauled in a 40-yard scoring strike from Rayce Dickerson to trim the deficit to 17-14 after three quarters.

Dickerson then put the Patriots up 28-17 in the fourth period when he hit Xaylen Johns for a nine-yard touchdown before racing 57 yards for the eventual game-winner.

Mann scored on a two-yard dive for the final score of the game.

Dickerson had three touchdown passes on the night to go with his rushing score. Jayden Roop rushed for 117 yards.

Mann threw for 249 yards and Gardinier had five catches for 130 yards.
