Thursday night was an ideal evening for baseball.

Wyoming East and Beckley matched the beautiful weather with their own beauty on the diamond.

On a night where runs were scarce, the Warriors used an RBI-single from Jaeden Lester in the fifth inning for a 1-0 win over the Flying Eagles.

Wyoming East baseball head coach Kevin Hedinger talked about the win.

Both teams entered the contest coming off of tough losses.

The Warriors had dropped a 3-2 game at Logan Wednesday, while oddly enough, the Flying Eagles were coming off of a 1-0 setback at Princeton.

It was more of the same Thursday with the pitchers ruling the day.

Miken Smyth for Wyoming East and Gage Price for Beckley kept the bats silent for four innings.

Wyoming East collected its first hit of the night when Talan Muscari lined a singled into left field to open the fifth inning.

The hit seemed harmless at the time when it was followed by a fly-out and a liner for out number two.

Muscari stirred up the action by stealing second base and moved to third on a single from Eli Lester.

Hope began to rise on the Wyoming East side when Owen Biggs walked to load the bases bringing Jaeden Lester to the dish with a chance to break the scoreless game.

First ball hitting, Jaeden Lester ripped a single to center field scoring Muscari.

The Warriors elected to send Eli Lester home as well to extend the lead, but a perfect relay from Drew Gallaher and the quick tag from Parker Williams nailed Lester for the third out.

As solid as their defense was Thursday, the Flying Eagles could not answer with the sticks.

Over the final three innings, Woodrow Wilson only managed one hit and a walk.

Smyth pitched six-and-a-third innings, allowing only five hits and striking out 11 batters. Jake Stewart closed out the game without surrendering a hit.

Price took the loss for Woodrow Wilson, but also pitched a gem in the process, allowing only six hits with six strikeouts.

Parker Williams had two hits for the Flying Eagles, while five players had one hit each for the Warriors.

Smyth not only earned the win on the hill, he collected the 100th hit of his high school career.

The senior standout talked about the game.
