HS Boys Basketball: The Tide is rising in Boone County
Sherman picked up two key regional wins at the New River CTC Invitational

It may be a little premature to issue a high tide warning for Charleston, but the Sherman boys basketball team is proving themselves to be a viable state tournament contender.

After playing in Region 4 of Class A for years, the Tide is now part of Region 3 under the new regional lineup.
In a region that stretches from Boone County to Webster County, home court advantage will be paramount when the postseason rolls around.
This past week at the New River CTC Invitational, Aaron Pauley's crew took a large step forward toward securing a top-seed with wins over regional foes Webster County and Greenbrier West,
The Tide (7-1) topped the Highlanders 65-52 before besting the Cavaliers 52-38 in the only meetings between the teams this year.
While Sherman hangs its hat on balance, junior Chase Mills was a standout in the two wins in Beckley.
Mills poured in 26 points against Webster and added 16 in the win over the Cavaliers.
Trey Lester was a double-digit scorer as well in both games with 13 and 10.
Senior guard Luke Tagliente tallied 14 points against the Cavaliers and had eight against the Highlanders.

The most glaring statistic in the two wins was steals with 14 in the Webster triumph and 17 in the victory over West.
Already holding a win over Montcalm in mid-December, Sherman now stands 3-0 in the region.
Regional battles remaining on the schedule are home games against Meadow Bridge and a rematch with the Generals.
The key regional clashes will be home-and-home games with Class A No. 2 Greater Beckley Christian. The initial meeting will be at Sherman, Feb. 3.
The only loss on the schedule came at Wirt County (7-2). The two setbacks for the Tigers were to Class A No. 4 Parkersburg Catholic.
Wirt County comes to Seth Tuesday.
Coach Pauley talked about his team and the season so far after the Greenbrier West win.
