
HS Cross Country: Shady Spring girls and Beckley boys win at Beckley Invitational
Tigers dominate the girls race, while the Flying Eagles edge Shady Spring in a tight battle on the boys side

Pipestem - The Shady Spring girls and the Woodrow Wilson boys finished first place in their respective divisions Friday night in the Beckley Cross Country Invitational at Pipestem State Park.
On the girls side, the Tigers dominated the race with nine runners finishing in the top-20 out of 70 competitors.
Shady Spring finished with a team score of 19, ahead of second place Oak Hill at 68. Woodrow Wilson was a close third, just one point behind the Red Devils.
Sophomore Baylee Garrett took the medalist honors on the girls side for the Tigers, followed by Gwynn McGinnis in fourth and Bre Crouse in fifth place.
Freshman Kendal Wickline was 10th overall for Shady, one position ahead of teammate Raelyn Carr.
Carli Spade from PikeView was third overall, while ZiMeng Ren led Woodrow Wilson in 6th-place. Chrissa Mayfield was the first Red Devil runner across the line in 8th-place and Madison Angus from Nicholas County was ninth.

Woodrow Wilson and Shady Spring fought a tight battle on the boys side with the Flying Eagles edging the Tigers by seven points.
Kyle Peters had another strong run for Woodrow Wilson to take the top honor on the boys side followed by Ethan Dowdy of Shady Spring in 2nd-place.
Vance Lindley ran fourth for the Flying Eagles, while Ethan Houck was eighth. David Northrop finished sixth for the Tigers.
Tyler Huffman (3rd), Eli Keaton (9th) and Luke Collis (10th) all had top-10 runs for PikeView, while Summers County standout Dakota Pettry came home in 5th-place.
