HS Cross Country: Shady Spring sweeps Coalfield Conference Meet

Baylee Garrett and Ethan Dowdy also give the Tigers a sweep of the individual titles

Mullens - Shady Spring swept the Coalfield Conference Cross Country Championships Wednesday at Twin Falls State Park.

The Lady Tigers earned five of the first six positions led by low medalist Baylee Garrett who bested the field by nearly 90 seconds.

Bre Crouse was third, followed by Raelyn Carr (4th), Gwynn McGinnis (5th) and Kendal Wickline (6th) for the Tigers.

Carli Spade from PikeView was second overall and Layla Taylor from James Monroe was seventh.

Nicholas County teammates Braylee Preast and Madison Angus ran eighth and tenth, respectively, while Mackenzie Kindle from Bluefield was ninth.

Tessa Collins (Shady Spring), Shaelee Flanagan (Nicholas County), Elise Yee (Liberty), Adison Lilly (Shady Spring) and Kynzie Taylor (James Monroe) completed the top-15 runners.

Nicholas County was second in the team race followed by James Monroe.

In the boys race, Shady Spring had all five scoring runners finish in the top-10 to bring home the title.

Tiger standout Ethan Dowdy out dueled PikeView's Tyler Huffman to the line in a tight race for the medalist honor.

Caleb Rose was fourth for Shady Spring, followed by teammates Kyle Malay, David Northrop and Logan Malott in positions eight through ten, respectively.

Westside standout Brody Lester was third overall and Summers County all-stater Dakota Pettry was sixth.

Luke Collis (5th) and Eli Keaton (7th) joined Huffman in the top-10.

Jesse Walkup (Greenbrier West), Dapry Broyles (James Monroe), Tristan Toler (Liberty), Grayson Adams (Greenbrier East) and Sam St. Clair rounded out the top-15 runners.

PikeView was second in the team race, followed by James Monroe, Summers County and Westside.
