HS Football: Beckley vs. Greenbrier East headlines week 2
The Flying Eagles have won the last three games in a row against the Spartans

The general rule of thumb in football is the largest growth is between week one of the season and week two.
Some area teams are hoping that to be true, while others look to build on the momentum of an opening week win.
Beckley and Greenbrier East both won this past Friday and the Battle of I-64 will highlight the area slate this week.
The Flying Eagles faced some adversity before pulling away from a scrappy Washington team for a 41-20 win.

Gage Burdette had a breakout game rushing for 176 yards and two scores. Burdette was also a "bulldog" on defense with five tackles and a pair of sacks.
Burdette was not the only Gage with a big night as quarterback Gage Price was 13-for-18 for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
The Spartans relied heavily on running back A.J. Godfrey to tote the rock in the 39-27 win over Riverside.
Godfrey totaled 182 yards on 31 carries and had two touchdowns.
Although the Spartans relied heavily on Godfrey in week one, they do have a gunslinger at quarterback in Brody Hamric that can fill up the air if needed.
Both teams have big play guys in Preston Clary and A.J. Thomas for Beckley, while East will counter with Nate Suttle and Grant Burdette.
Greenbrier East will come to Raleigh County on a mission as well, having lost the last three in a row to the Flying Eagles.

Honeycutt Stadium will be the scene for another rivalry showdown when Bluefield visits Princeton.

Brad Mosser had over 200 yards of total offense for Princeton, while Chance Barker threw for over 200 yards.
While playing AAA Princeton is already a points benefit for Bluefield, a win would be huge in regards to the postseason. The Tigers have had the Beavers' number of late, winning the last four games in a row.

James Monroe and Shady Spring both were victorious in week one, but in very different fashions.
The Tigers took a trip to Kanawha County and wiped out St. Albans 40-0 behind a stout run game.

Blake Snodgrass ran for 160 yards and Kaiden Helmer added 119 more. Similar to Greenbrier East, Shady Spring did not need to show much in the passing game, but they too have a big-time play-maker in Cal Culicerto.
James Monroe had to battle to the wire with perennial power Williamstown before pulling out a 26-25 victory.
Ryan Mann threw for 186 yards and two scores, while rushing for 56 yards and another score.
It will be the second straight road trip for the Mavericks, while the Tigers will be well rested and waiting at H.B. Thomas Field.
