Sylas Nelson scores five times and eclipses 1,000 yards for the season

The Patriots celebrated the first Independence football team from 1976 Friday night with a 49-6 win over Westside.

Sylas Nelson scored five first half touchdowns to lead the AA No. 1 rated Patriots. Nelson rushed for 188 yards on the night to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark in the win.

Quarterback Brock Green was 11-15 through the air for 238 yards and a touchdown to Christian Linksweiler.

Cole Laxton added a 29-yard touchdown run.

Braxton Waldron scored on a one-yard run for the Renegades.

Independence (6-0) travels to Barnesville, Ohio Friday night, while Westside (3-3) looks to bounce back at Summers County.
