HS Football: Liberty knocks off Greenbrier West in ground assault clash
Liberty sophomore quarterback Jaxson Workman has a career-best rushing night in the win

Glen Daniel - Friday night, the game between Greenbrier West and Liberty appeared to be a ground assault on paper.
That is exactly how the game played out and the Raiders had the right man for the job in sophomore quarterback Jaxson Workman.
Coming off of a four-touchdown outing against PikeView last week, Workman rushed for a career high 232 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-14 win over the Cavaliers.
The young quarterback talked about his performance Friday night.
In the first quarter, the game appeared it would turn into a shootout with both team scoring twice for a 14-14 tie after the opening stanza.
Colton Dunbar opened the scoring for the visitors with a five-yard run for an 8-0 lead. The home team answered in kind with a 15-yard burst by Workman, making it an 8-7 game.

Ben Butler's 10-yard run gave Greenbrier West its last lead at 14-7 before Liberty tied the game on a 17-yard burst from Workman.
A drop touchdown pass in the end zone for the Cavaliers and a turnover for the Raiders doused the fireworks and the scored remained even at halftime.
The big play of the game occurred on the first play of the third quarter when Liberty went a little old school, back to the single-wing.
Having not used that formation so far this season, Workman took full advantage of the surprise move, bursting through the Greenbrier West defense for a 73-yard touchdown gallop that proved to be the eventual game winner.
The Raiders sealed the game late in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard Colton Tolliver run for the final margin.
Liberty (1-2) travels to James Monroe Friday night, while Greenbrier West (1-2) hosts Pocahontas County.
Head coach Mark Workman talked about the win, breaking out the single-wing and the performance of his guys in the trenches.
