Meadow Bridge - Friday night the cross-county rivalry between Meadow Bridge and Summers County had a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new.

For the home-standing Wildcats on Homecoming, it had the most important element.

Celebrating the Centennial anniversary of the school, as well was the 1958 and 1988 state championship teams, Meadow Bridge scored 20 unanswered points to defeat the Bobcats, 26-6.

Once again, senior all-stater Kaiden Sims came up big for his team accounting for three touchdowns in the win.

Sims opened the scoring for the Wildcats by hauling in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Tony Martin for a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Summers County answered immediately with a strong drive capped by a Braxton Lambert two-yard run to even the game with 11:11 to play in the second quarter.

Braxton ran the ball 22 times for 91 yards, but it was all downhill for the visitors going forward.

Following an unfortunate brawl that saw two players from each side get ejected, Meadow Bridge scored twice before the halftime horn sounded to separate the game.

Trent Roles restored the lead for the home team when he hauled in a 23-yard strike on fourth-and goal from Trip Roles with 4:46 to play in the quarter for a 12-6 advantage.

Following a Bobcats fumble in their own territory, the Wildcats made them pay with a nine-yard, Sims to Trip Roles touchdown pass for an 18-6 halftime lead.

Sims capped his three-score night with a 54-yard gallop midway through the third period for the final margin.

The senior tailback ended the night with 125 yards on 25 carries and was named Homecoming King at halftime.

Meadow Bridge moves to 3-0 on the season and will travel to Valley Wetzel Friday night, while Summers County (0-3) hosts Midland Trail.

First-year Wildcats head coach Brandon Wickline talked about the win over Summers County.
