Hico - Friday night Class AA No. 7 Midland Trail was a prime candidate for a letdown.

Jayden Roop made sure that did not happen.

Carrying the ball 20 times, the senior running back rolled up 237 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Patriots to a 50-13 win over Liberty.

The home squad did start a little sluggish, holding only a 7-0 lead after the first period on Roop's first score of the contest.

However, the Raiders failed to take advantage turning the ball over five times in the first two quarters.

Dickerson

Quarterback Rayce Dickerson doubled the advantage when he found Gage Johnson for a 36-yard touchdown pass.

Dickerson, who passed for 129 yards in the game, then set up the final score of the opening half with a 53-yard pass to Jamison Swafford. Roop capped the drive with a four-yard plunge and 21-0 lead at the break.

Roop continued the scoring barrage on the first drive of the second half, rolling in from eight-yards out, but this time, Liberty had an answer.

Liberty responded with a two-yard scoring run from Jaxson Workman, trimming the deficit to 28-6.

Workman had set up the score with a nice scramble and pass to Liam Daniels that went for 46 yards.

The second half fireworks continued when Roop sliced his way through the Liberty defenders for a 58-yard score, pushing the lead out to 35-6.

Another big pass play by the visitors kept the game in reach when Colton Tolliver took a pass and tight-roped the sideline for a 50-yard touchdown.

That was the last gasp for the Raiders.

Roop added his fifth score of the night from 26-yards out and Jacob Ewing ran in the conversion for a 43-13 lead through three quarters of play.

Ewing capped the night for the Patriots with a six-yard run for the final margin.

Workman passed for 214 yards and ran for 31 to pace the Raiders. Tolliver had four grabs for 74 yards, while Daniels hauled in four catches for 80 yards. Chase Shea caught three balls for 50 yards.

Roop and Trail head coach Jeremy Moore discussed the win after the game.
