Summers County girls basketball head coach Doug Trail already knew gaining a win over Class A No. 7 Pocahontas County in the championship game of the R.T. Rogers Oil Classic was going to be a difficult task in its own right.

The difficulty greatly increased mightily when starting point guard Jaelynn Boone could not go due to an injury.

Without Boone the Lady Bobcats struggled to score, but that was not the case for the Lady Warriors.

Drilling 11 shots from behind the arc, Pocahontas County took a 16-point halftime lead and turned it into a 55-27 win.

Warriors head coach Tim McClung discussed the victory, as well as the difficulty of winning the R.T. Rogers Oil Classic title.

Following the first quarter where the Lady Bobcats trailed 12-10, the battle started to slip away in the second period.

A pair of 3-pointers from Savana Sharp helped Pocahontas build a double-digit lead at 22-10 in the first three minutes of the stanza.

While the Lady Warriors were spurting, Summers County was sputtering.

The advantage moved to 15 points before a layup from Lynnzie Farley snapped the drought for the Lady Bobcats.

When the halftime horn sounded, however, Pocahontas County was up 28-12.

The second half started promising for Summers County with scores from Hadley Bennett and Carly Persinger.

Unfortunately for the home team, the Lady Warriors fired back with 3-pointers from Sharp and Calli Propst.

Sharp knocked down six shots from behind the arc on the night and had a game-high 25 points.

A pair of scores from Farley could not slow down the Pocahontas County onslaught.

A late turnover by the Lady Bobcats turned into a dagger when Alexis Arbogast drilled a 3-pointer for a 43-22 lead.

Arbogast finished with 14 points and four long balls. Propst scored seven, while Allyson Taylor added four. Shayla Bennett had three points and Chloe Annett had two.

Farley led Summers with 11 and Carly Persinger scored five. Bennett finished with four points and Kaylee Cole had three. Elli Meadows and Ali Persinger scored two points each.

Sharp was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Arbogast and Propst. Farley and Bennett were honored from Summers County.

The group was joined by Abby Greer from Summit Christian Academy and Kendal Wickline from Shady Spring.

Summit knocked off Shady in the consolation game 37-26. Greer paced the Falcons with 12, followed by Jalyn Bailey with 10 and Jocelyn Hall with seven.

Wickline had eight for the Tigers, while Brooklyn Brogan scored seven and Josie Farrish had five,
