Saturday afternoon at Paul Cline Stadium, the Woodrow Wilson boys soccer team dominated the possession and the defense was relentless.

The end result was a 2-nil win over visiting Morgantown and the first clean sheet of the season.

Following a scoreless first half, senior Coby Dillon was in the right place at the right time on two separate occasions to punch in both goals for the Flying Eagles who moved to 2-0 on the season.

Woodrow Wilson knocked off Hurricane Wednesday night on the road in a rematch of last year's state championship game, also a Flying Eagles victory.

"The first goal, Ali (Farghaly) did a great job of individual work and made a tough place for the goalie. The ball came back to me and I was able to finish it," Dillon said. "The second goal, the ball just bouncing around again honestly. I hit it, goalie made a good save, then I placed it better and scored."

Saturday's tally was the third such goal for Dillon, who credited years of play with his teammates as the key to being in the "right place at the right time."

"A lot of it is playing with these guys for so long. I sort of know what their instincts are and everything," Dillon said. "Also I have played soccer for so long, you don't realize it really. Just reading the ball and reading people's instincts."

Morgantown head coach Samuel Snyder shared his thoughts on Dillon's goals.

"He is a phenomenal player. You get him the attacking third attacking defenses and you have already messed up," Snyder said. "He got a few of them and put them away, that is what he does."

On their side of the ledger, the Mohigans failed to generate any type of offense for the most part. Snyder handed that credit to the home team.

"Their defense is good. Honestly, we didn't get enough chances to even test it," Snyder said. "They shifted and overloaded the midfield really well. They were better in the transition, so we weren't able to bypass to see what their defense could do. Team defense is amazing."

Although his team could not generate a win, Snyder talked about the positives of the decision.

"We have a very new team. A lot of people that haven't been put in positions. The main thing today was could we battle with them and could we show up," Snyder said. "We showed that we had the metal, the character and the fight with them, which was great. They are just a little better than us positionally right now. They new how to take advantage of our over-shifts and we did not do the same."

Beckley head coach Steve Laraba met the media following the match and gave his thoughts on the victory.
