Following a slow start to the 2026 softball season, Nicholas County came to Oak Hill in search of its first win after four early setbacks.

The Lady Grizzlies found exactly what they were looking for in Fayette County.

Exploding for 18 hits, Nicholas County knocked of the Lady Red Devils 7-3.

Lady Grizzlies head coach Marie Shaffer talked about the win.

The home team struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on a fielding error by Nicholas County.

However, from that point forward, Potomac State commit, Abby Hilleary was masterful in the circle allowing just one hit and one run over the final six innings.

With Hilleary clamping down the home team, the Lady Grizzlies found their bats and went to work at the plate.

Nicholas County evened the game in the third inning ignited by a one-out single from Brylee Scott.

Jaidyn Johnson followed with a double to score Scott and later scored on a single from Hilleary for a 2-2 tie.

The big inning for the visitors came in the fourth when they added four runs to take a 6-2 advantage.

The big blows came from Alenah Adkins and Journee Meadows who both smacked RBI-doubles.

Hilleary drove in the final run for Nicholas County in the sixth scoring Johnson who had reached on her third hit of the evening.

Maddie Burns joined Johnson going 3-for-4, while Brylee Scott, Alenah Adkins, Stella Bays, Cassie Harper and Meadows all had two hits apiece.
