
HS Softball: Wyoming East and Westside win Monday

Bluefield - The Class AA Region 3, Section 1 softball tournament opened Monday at Bluefield High School and it was a day for the Wyoming County schools.
Westside knocked off Bluefield in dramatic fashion, 2-1 in extra innings, while Wyoming East breezed past Mingo Central, 11-3 in six innings.
In the first game of the night, No. 2 seed Westside walked off a 2-1 win over No. 3 seed Bluefield on a squeeze bunt by Paisley Shannon in the bottom of the ninth inning..
Kinley Morgan doubled to open the at-bat before a sacrifice bunt by Karson Paynter moved her to third base, setting the state for the winning run.
Bluefield piled up 10 hits, but could not take advantage on the scoreboard. Maddie Lawson had four hits, including a double and a triple and the only RBI of the game for the Beavers.
Taylor Mabry and Abby Matthews had two hits each for Bluefield.
Morgan and Shannon both had two hits for the Renegades, while Tenli Hicks had an RBI.

In the nightcap, Mak Hatfield shined by blasting a pair of two-run homers on a three-hit night with five RBI.
Kaydee Shrewsbury had two hits, including a solo homer, while Victoria Smith had two hits and two RBI.
Carlee Rollins, Alivia Monroe and Reagan Bower each had two hits, while Carli Raye had a double and an RBI.
Wyoming East and Westside will meet Tuesday at 5 p.m. The loser will meet the winner of Bluefield and Mingo Central played late Monday night in an elimination game, 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
