MORGANTOWN - During Paige Brink’s freshman season at Morgantown High, her team fell to Musselman in the state championship. The Mohigans returned the following season when Brink was a sophomore, and captured the program’s first-ever state championship, avenging the loss by defeating Musselman for the title.

MHS returned to the championship match in 2024 but fell to Hedgesville in a five-set thriller during Brink’s junior season. Finally, Brink earned her second state championship with Morgantown in four years with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles to cap her senior year.

Brink played nearly every position for MHS in 2025, finishing the year with 349 kills at a 44% rate, 470 serve receptions, 241 digs, and 75 aces with an 83% service rate. She was also named Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A volleyball Player of the Year.

“Paige has always been such a reliable and steady leader,” MHS head coach Abigail Wolfe said of the Class AAAA first team all-state captain. “She always just does her thing and rises to the occasion when necessary. I think it has been a true blessing to watch her over the last four years because of how fearlessly she plays. She came into the season prepared to give it all and played that way until the very end.”

Brink’s teammate, Leah Greeny, joins her as a first-team selection. The sophomore finished 2025 just as impressively as Brink, with 357 kills and a 49% hitting rate. She added 208 digs, 494 serve receptions, and 91 aces on 87% serving.

“It’s been fun to see Paige and Leah this season because they are statistically so similar in some aspects,” Wolfe said. “At the OVAC break, I remember sending stats to Allison at Hedgesville, being dumbfounded with how similar they were. I think they had maybe one ace and five kills separating them. They really showed their own strengths toward the end of the season, with Leah having a time from the service line with 91 total aces and Paige having 241 digs.”

The Class AAAA runner-up, Hedgesville, landed a pair of first-team players, as seniors Parker Sutherland and Gracie Brown made the list.

Sutherland earned 353 kills, 89 blocks, 97 digs, and 29 assists. She added 69 aces from the service line at a 90% clip. Brown finished 2025 with 418 kills, 395 digs, and 436 serve receptions.

Two other seniors, Alycia Miller of Musselman and Jillian Yost from Cabell Midland, joined the first team. Miller helped the Applemen to a semifinal run in 2025 at the libero position with 704 digs and 591 serve receptions. Yost had 1,025 assists with only seven errors on the season.

Two more sophomores made the first team in Woodrow Wilson’s Mollie Smith and Hurricane’s Kiley Jones. Smith earned 343 kills, 56 blocks, and 76 digs in 2025. Jones finished her season tallying 500 kills, 132 blocks, and 76 digs.

The final two first-team spots were earned by Parkersburg South senior Shyanne Hays, who finished 2025 with 485 kills, 326 digs, 97 blocks, and 69 aces, and the Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Kennedy Porter from Parkersburg. She tallied 391 kills, 145 digs, 98 blocks, and 55 aces.

Cabell Midland junior Katie Lawson captained the Class AAAA second-team, finishing 2025 with 320 kills, 11 digs, and 99 blocks.

The rest of the second team included Hedgesville senior Alexa Smith, Morgantown senior Kelly Ryan, Martinsburg senior Katie Zittie, George Washington senior Zoe Pray, Woodrow Wilson senior Anya Hasan, Cabell Midland senior Carley Brewster, Spring Mills junior McKenna Mullin, Hurricane junior Adalee McComas and University junior Avery Bland.

Wooden plaques in the shape of West Virginia that include the high school name, player’s name, licensed WVSWA logo, and year of the honoree are available to all-state first team, second team, and honorable mentions and can be purchased from the Bear Wood Company through WVSWA.org or Bearwoodcompany.com.
