
Regional HS Girls Basketball: AA No. 1 James Monroe clamps down Independence
Lady Mavericks use a strong third quarter to pull away from the Lady Patriots

Lindside - All season James Monroe appeared destined for another trip to the Girls Basketball State Tournament.
Thursday night it became a reality.

Holding No. 4-seed Independence to 19 points over the final three quarters, the Lady Mavericks secured their spot in the big dance with a 58-29 win.
James Monroe earned the No. 1-seed in the tournament and will play Lincoln Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. inside the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The Lady Mavericks held a 23-17 lead at the break, but took firm control of the game in the third period, outscoring the visitors 19-6.
Lydia Dunlap and Peighton Griffith led the charge for James Monroe scoring 16 and 14 points, respectively. Griffith drilled three long balls, two in the opening quarter of play. Dunlap scored six points in the crucial third quarter.
Harmony Mills closed out her stellar career at Independence by leading the Patriots with 14 points.
