Riley Brown keys early run and Abi Baker slams the door in a 70-48 win over the Lady Renegades

Beating a team three times in the same season is known to be very difficult.

When it is your county rival who is desperate for a win in the series, the degree of difficulty is greatly magnified.

That was not the case Thursday night when Wyoming East welcomed Westside to the War Zone with a trip to the 2026 Girls State Basketball Tournament on the line.

Sparked by a big first quarter from senior Riley Brown and a strong second half effort from fellow-senior Abby Baker, the Lady Warriors advanced to their sixth straight state tournament appearance with a 70-48 win over the Lady Renegades.

Wyoming East was awarded the No.5-seed and will play No. 4-seed Charleston Catholic Tuesday morning at 11:15 a.m. inside the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

Lady Warriors head coach Ryan Davidson discussed his team's fast start and their ability to earn another trip to Charleston.

The clash between the county rivals was not decided in the first quarter, but the first eight minutes sure set the tone.

With "Downtown" Brown stroking three long balls, Wyoming East jumped out to a 19-2 lead.

Westside answered with a 6-0 run to close the first quarter,l but the damage was done and the Lady Renegades could never get over the hump.

The home team then matched its first quarter output in the second period for a 38-19 lead.

Brown finished the night with 23 points, while Baker kept Westside at bay with 25 points, most coming on strong drives to the rim in the second half. Brown's output was even more impressive considering she sat most of the second quarter after committing her second foul.

Brown, who played her first two years of high school at Westside, discussed the game and her fast start that keyed the Wyoming East victory.
