Tanner Vest and Bryson Beaver are not quite ready to replace peanut butter and jelly as the most notable combination, but they are working on it.

For the third time in the last four years, Vest and Beaver bested the field at the West Virginia Golf Association Four-Ball Championship played on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.

"We played well yesterday to put ourselves in position (for the final round Sunday)," Vest said. "Our motto was to just get out here and have fun. When we have fun, we play well."

The four-ball format requires both team members play their own golf ball, with the best score counting as the team score for each hole.

In the opening round Saturday, the duo tallied 10 birdies and two bogies with Beaver doing most of the heavy lifting.

Sunday, Vest and Beaver were one shy of the Saturday birdie total, but in the final round, the duo stayed clean with zero bogies for the the final 18 holes.

"This (tournament) was a tale of two days," Beaver said. "This guy (Vest) balled today. I played, alright today and helped a little bit. Yesterday, I played well and he helped out when he could."

Starting quickly with five birdies over the first nine holes, Vest and Beaver found themselves in a back and forth battle with the first round leaders, Lee van Horn and Noah Mullens and two other teams for the lead.

Back-to-back birdies an holes 12 and 13 were crucial to the stretch run, but the duo separated themselves with two additional birdies on the difficult par-4, 16th hole and the tricky par-3, 17th hole.

Vest rolled in his putt on 16 for the bird and Beaver was first in on hole 17, moving the team score to 17-under par.

Tied for second at 15-under par were Joseph Kalaskey and Ryan Bilby, as well as van Horn Mullens.

Rounding out the top five teams were Davey Jude and Cam Roam, tied with Jackson Woodburn and Jack Michael at 14-under par.

Vest and Beaver won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. The win in 2022 made them the youngest duo to win the Four-Ball event in tournament history.
