Wins were not easy to come by for the WVU Tech Women's Basketball team last season.

That has not been the case so far this year.

Stewart

After opening with a solid win Saturday against Ohio Christian, the Golden Bears doubled their win total with an 80-63 victory over Carolina University (NC) Tuesday night inside the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Following an even first quarter, WVU Tech outscored the Bruins 17-11 in the second period for a 34-27 lead at the break.

Carolina stayed within arm's reach most of the third quarter before a Liz Cadle 3-ball gave the Golden Bears its first double-digit lead with 3:33 to play in the quarter.

Holding a 54-43 advantage, WVU Tech stepped on the gas to open the fourth quarter.

Alexis Sexton scored on a layup ahead of back-to-back triples from Cadence Stewart for a 19-point bulge, just 90 seconds into the period.

Sexton then knocked down a jumper and a 3-ball of her own for a 67-43 lead with 6:50 to play.

While the advantage appeared to be comfortable, the Bruins refused to go quietly into the night.

With 1:22 to play, the deficit was down to 11 points.

Cadle

However, a bucket from Sexton and an old-school 3-point play from Stewart calmed the water giving Tech the 80-63 win.

Sexton finished with a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Stewart led the Golden Bears with 23 points, including four long balls.

Cadle added 13 points, while Avery Lilly had 10 rebounds and Emmanuella Amaefula handed out eight assists.

WVU Tech hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) Thursday.

Head coach Kenny Osborne talked about the win.
